Health Insurance Assistance Program

Who are the Health Insurance Counselors?

They are volunteers, certified by the Minnesota Board on Aging, after receiving training on Medicare, medical assistance, health insurance and benefit plans.  Counselors provide objective, confidential help.  They are not connected with any insurance company and do not give legal advice.  

The counselors are available to assist the elderly with information and assistance on a confidential one-on-one basis.

Is there a fee for this service?

Donations are encouraged to help cover program costs.  Contribution envelopes are provided.

What services are offered?

Information about Medicare, Medical Assistance, health insurance and benefit plans.

Filing insurance claims on Medicare appeals.

Processing and tracking medical bills and forms.

Help in claiming insurance benefits you are entitled to under Medicare; Medical Assistance; Medicare supplement and long-term care policies.

Assistance in evaluating and comparing health benefit plans and options for Medicare supplement and long-term care policies.

bullet

Assistance with completing health care, prescription drug applications.

One-on-One Assistance Available


Forms assistance is provided at various sites on regular days of the month.

Volunteer preparing materials to be placed in the informational kiosks that are distributed around the region.
